Dr. Kennel earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois and M.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego, and he completed postdoctoral training in cell surface analyses at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation.  Dr. Kennel was a research associate at Scripps for 3 years before moving to ORNL in 1976.  He retired from ORNL as a distinguished senior staff scientist in 2005 prior to accepting his current appointment as Associate Professor at the UT Graduate School of Medicine.  His research interests focus on applying molecular biology and protein chemistry to engineer radiolabeled probes for PET/CT and SPECT/CT imaging of amyloid and of cancer in small animals.
