Wyatt Technology Multi-Angle Light Scattering and Refractometer

MALS-DNDC-A2The DAWN EOS multi-angle static light scattering instrument (blue instrument on left) contains 18 detectors at various fixed angles.  When operated in the batch mode, this instrument is capable of generating Zimm plots for determining the number average molecular weight, the root mean square radius of gyration, and the second Virial coefficient.  The blue instrument on the right is an OPTILAB DSP interferometric refractometer capable of measuring the dn/dc value when operated in the batch mode. The refractometer is equipped with a Fisher Scientific Isotemp 3016S heater/cooler for controlling the tmperature of the cell. The two instruments can be run in tandem, and the measured dn/dc can be input into the light scattering software.  As shown, the system can also be operated in the chromatography mode utilizing GPC columns. The column set installed in this instrument consists of the following five columns:  PSS (Polymer Standards Service) SDV; 8×300 mm; 5 µm; 500, 10E3, 10E5, and 10E6 Å along with an 8×50, 5 µm guard.
